ACAS Early Conciliation Service

Since April 2014, employees are required to go through the ACAS Early Conciliation Service before being allowed to issue tribunal proceedings.

Before lodging a claim to an Employment Tribunal, all potential Claimants now need to contact ACAS first, where conciliation will be offered. Assuming they wish to go through the procedure, an ACAS Officer will contact you to ask whether you are interested in participating.

There is no obligation on the parties to actively engage in early conciliation. We ascertain the facts of the situation and then discuss with you whether going through the procedure is in your best interests and what the future implications might be.

In certain circumstances, potential Claimants can be granted an extension to the time limit for lodging their claim with an tribunal. This can be a complicated area and we can guide you through it.
