Some good news – on the 6 February 2022 the Queen will have reigned for 70 years. Plans are in place to stage a series of events over four days from the 2 – 5 June 2022. The events will reflect the Queen's reign, the longest of any British sovereign, and her impact on the UK and the world since her accession to the throne in 1952.
To create the four-day weekend in June 2022, the late May Spring Bank Holiday that year will be moved to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June will be created.
If your Holiday Policy states that your employees are only entitled to the eight bank and public holidays recognised every day, then strictly speaking they are not entitled to this extra bank holiday, unless you decide to give it to them as a gesture of goodwill. Otherwise, they can take it as part of their annual leave allowance.
