The Vegan Society has published guidance to help employers avoid direct and indirect discrimination claims following the preliminary judgment last month that ethical veganism is a protected philosophical belief under the Equality Act.
'Supporting veganism in the workplace: A guide for employers' touches on a range of measures employers can take to facilitate an inclusive workplace for ethical vegans. These range from designating food storage areas for vegans and providing milk alternatives for tea and coffee. The guidance also suggests that employers train staff to improve their understanding of ethical veganism and to update any equality policies to include provisions for ethical veganism.
