Number of mothers in the workforce reaches a record 75%

Figures released by the ONS have revealed that the number of mothers in the labour market has reached 75.1%, a significant increase compared with 66.2% of mothers in 2000. The number of working fathers has increased from 89.4% in 2000 to 92.6% in 2019.

Interestingly, the data showed that 28.5% of mothers with a child of 14 years old or younger had reduced their working hours because of childcare reasons. This is a stark comparison with the figure for fathers, which is 4.8%.
