Parental Bereavement (Leave and Pay) Act 2018

This new act has received Royal Assent. It provides a right to two weeks of time away from work for those employees who have lost a child under 18 or suffer a stillbirth from 24 weeks of pregnancy. Details of how much remuneration will be payable during the leave are still to be published but it is expected employed parents will be able to claim statutory parental bereavement pay for this period, if they meet the relevant eligibility criteria, which are similar to the eligibility criteria for statutory paternity pay.

The Government has said it anticipates introducing Regulations and bringing the Act fully into force by April 2020.
