Tribunal fees: 80% not yet refunded

Figures published by the Ministry of Justice reveal that only 20% of the predicted £33 million refund has been returned to claimants since employment tribunal fees were declared unlawful.

Following the Supreme Court ruling, the government announced plans to refund all fees paid since they were introduced and launched an official refund programme in October 2017. Unison's assistant general secretary Christina McAnea claims "the government must make much more of an effort to pay back the money it owes to thousands of people". However, a spokesperson for HM Courts and Tribunals Service has said that around 10,000 letters are being sent out each month to those who are potentially eligible for a refund.
