A bathroom supplies company has been ordered to pay more than £15,000 after its director called an employee “immature” and fired her for alleging sexual harassment.
The employee alleged that her boss and owner of the company had subjected her to sex discrimination, through sexual comments and inappropriate touching of her hands. She feared being alone at work with him. When her informal complaint was rejected, she lodged a formal grievance. This was ignored but several days later she was dismissed. Her boss described her conduct as “immature” and said the workplace was “not a kindergarten”. A costly mistake her him.
