Bogus self-employment to be tackled in £1.2 billion clampdown

HM Treasury is considering plans to tackle bogus self-employment to recover billions of pounds in unpaid tax, according to the Financial Times. According to the report, HM Treasury has considered extending new rules announced in April 2017 that results in "off payroll" public sector workers paying more tax if the nature of their engagement, absent an intermediary, has the characteristics of employment. Under the new proposals, these rules would also apply to the private sector.
