Fingerprint expert to get £300,000 for unfair dismissal

A FORENSICS expert who played a role in the notorious Shirley McKie case is set to receive £300,000 in compensation for unfair dismissal.

Fiona McBride was told last week by an employment tribunal that her former police employers must pay her 10 years of back pay and let her return to her old job. The 52-year-old, one of the country’s leading fingerprint experts, was sacked in 2007 by the Scottish Police Authority, after the McKie scandal.

Ms McBride took her unfair dismissal claim to the Supreme Court in London last February where judges ordered her reinstatement and referred her case back to an employment tribunal in Glasgow which ruled she should go back to work on February 27, while receiving back dated pay of up to £300,000.
