Business leaders propose London-only work visas

The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called for the introduction of a London-only work visa to protect EU nationals who are currently working or have the opportunity to work in London. Under the issued proposals, outlined in the Permits, Points and Visa report, EU nationals who work or have a job offer in London, will be able to work in London while being prevented from working elsewhere in the UK through the presence of a specific national insurance number. The LCCI were keen to highlight that if an EU national working on a London-only visa stopped working, they would have to find another job within 60 days or face deportation. The proposals come in light of Cebr's economic study, that suggests 160,000 workers will leave London and £2 billion of direct tax contributions will be lost as a result of Brexit.
