Extension to the Job Support Scheme for businesses who have to close

Following the government’s planned changes to the JSS announced on the 22 October, no changes have been proposed for businesses legally required to close.

While further guidance is awaited by the end of the month, the current proposals are:

  1. The scheme will open on the 1 November, run until the end of April but be reviewed in January.

  2. The extension applies to any businesses required to close their premises due to local or national coronavirus restrictions.

  3. The government will pay two thirds of their employees’, up to a maximum of £2,100 per month.

  4. Employers are not asked to contribute towards wages.

  5. Employers will only be asked to cover NICs and pension contributions.

  6. Businesses will only be eligible to claim the grant while they are subject to the restrictions.

  7. Employees must be off work for a minimum of seven consecutive days.
