Changes to COVID-19 testing requirements

The Government has announced changes to the testing requirements for COVID-19 in England from the 11 January 2022:

  1. Those with a positive lateral flow test but no symptoms will no longer be required to take a PCR test.

  2. Isolation for seven days will start from day one of having a positive lateral flow result.

  3. Negative lateral flow tests are required on days six and seven, with no sign of a fever.

  4. Those testing positive with symptoms still need a PCR test and still need to isolate for seven days.

The change is temporary and should ease pressure caused by high demand for PCR tests due to the Omicron variant.

The Government has announced a further review by the 26 January 2022.
