Furlough Scheme extended until October

Updated: May 16, 2020

The Chancellor has announced today that the Furlough Scheme will be extended until October.

Until the end of July, there are no changes and employees can continue to receive 80% of their monthly wages up to £2,500.

From August, the scheme would continue for all sectors and regions of the country but with greater flexibility to support the transition back to work. The government will ask companies to “start sharing” the cost of the scheme, with employers currently using the scheme being able to bring furloughed employees back part-time.

Full details of the scheme, from August onwards, are due to be published by the end of May.
