Furlough: Updated guidance for employers providing some clarification on union reps and directors


The latest edition of guidance for employers clarifies two areas:

  1. Employees who are union or non-union representatives may undertake duties and activities for the purpose of individual or collective representation of employees or other workers while on furlough, and

  2. Directors who pay themselves once a year are eligible to furlough, subject to certain conditions.
