Definition of sick amended to include those who self-isolate

March 17, 2020

In order to be entitled to statutory (or contractual) sick pay, an employee needs to fall within the definition of “persons deemed incapable of work”.

The Government has now amended the definition to include a person who is “isolating from other people in such a manner as to prevent infection or contamination with coronavirus disease; and who by reason of that isolation is unable to work.

Being unable to work would not cover those who are able to work from home.
